When to Harvest Sunflower Seeds
Cues to harvest your sunflower seeds are petals dry and beginning to fall, green base of the head will turn yellow and then brown, the seeds are filled out, and the seeds are black or black and white striped depending on the variety.
Watch out...
If you harvest too early the seeds will not be developed.
If you harvest too late the seeds will be to dry to roast.
A good rule of thumb is if the wildlife are eating your sunflower seeds...so can you!
